free city sweatshirt and 'i love you' sweatpants

We've all established that it is inevitably Midterms week, and I would love nothing more than to roll out of bed in my Victoria's Secret flannel p.j.'s and head to school, but unfortunately the judgmental majority of my classmates would thoroughly disapprove. I therefore must force myself to throw on a comfortably cute outfit. I love a cool hightop sneaker, and above are my top picks. The comfiest sweatpants everrr are the ones from free city-- and why not wear these in honor of Valentine's day??!! xox

trés chic

Midterms week. The most dreaded series of days a high schooler endures. In between studying, my friends and I go out for lunch and I make some errands, which both entail looking halfway decent. I went to a birthday party this weekend, in the middle of a chaotic study session, and threw this on. I kind of looked like a 50 year old Parisian grandmother at first, but then it started to grow on  me. The key is wearing bright lipstick to remind people that you're still a youthful human being. it.

buy it here: Amazon

I was browsing the aisles of the almost-extinct Barnes and Noble, past the magazines of overly steroid-injected men and bridal look books, when I spotted the prettiest, most delicious looking novel. Obviously, what I had seen was It, the new journal/novel/concentrated population of doodles by "It" girl, Alexa Chung. In her eye candy packed piece (literally, there is an eye on the cover), Alexa states that her writing is a stream of consciousness and it takes us from her childhood to the present, giving us some insight into her style, friends, music and beauty; it can also be considered a coffee-table book jam-packed with random doodles and photos of god-only-knows-who, but who am I to judge. Alexa told Vogue in a recent interview, “I wrote it because I was bored and wanted to create something alongside hosting television shows”. This is not the most inspiring description of writing an author has ever had to contribute, but Alexa is certainly no ordinary writer, let alone ordinary girl. She is, in fact, "It". xox

LOVE bug

The holidays are over!! And so let the frilly pinks and sappy reds out of their hiding places (because let's face it, who actually wears this much pink unless they want to audition for a pepto bismol commercial.) In tribute to the passionate holiday, I prefer to show my spirit in a more muted way than dressing head to toe in pink- Pouches! I'll carry a different one with me to different classes, put my makeup and hair clips in them, and even stuff my Valentine notes in them. They make me smile and are so functional! Another unexpected Valentine's Day tradition is to sip my morning cup of joe out of a cute Sur la Table heart mug. I buy one for each of my friends and we strut through the halls keeping our fingers warm. The Mi plus Me 'love drip' necklace is a different approach to the classic pendant that is trendy in all the right ways. Lastly, I love to curl up with a book in my Autumn Cashmere skull slippers-- so rocker-chic. Xoxo!

Brrr Brrr Baby

Sweater- Free People Jeans- Vintage Levi's Bag- Coach
Turtleneck- Equipment Head Scarf- Céline Booties- Givenchy

Winter in California comes in the form of beach picnics and surfing, but when it gets cold, what's a Cali girl to do? Layer! I layer sweaters over dresses over pants if I have to, but instead of looking like an Irish grandmother, one has to do it in a way that's chic and manageable. I recommend layering a sweater over a long-sleeve tee then adding cool pants, a structured bag and some killer boots/ booties. Happy Holidays!! xox

Dip dyed hair. The worst trend to have graced heads across the globe. Until this year! Runway models at Peter Som, Oscar de la Renta, and Chanel debuted some of the most happening halos of faded color ever. The key to color- go muted or don't go at all. An example is model-muse Charlotte Free, famous for her bubblegum-pink tresses that look more grunge-chic than 80's freak. The sophisticated swirls of neon at Oscar de la Renta show how to go about a serious punch of color in a toned down way. The locks at Peter Som resembled rivulets of indulgent pastels, which look put together and classy because they are only at the tips and are muted down. You cannot go wrong with a single swipe of a Kevin Murphy Color Bug, or Free People's hair chalk, which both provide the perfect trendy dose of color. No need to get your hands stained-- return to your childhood days as you paint your own chalk masterpiece!

Last weekend, I went shopping at Zara which is probably one of my favorite stores for the following reasons: they have tweed jackets that make me feel like I can actually buy a Chanel jacket; there are some kickass leather skirts; the prints and textures make me happy. I came across the coolest asymmetrical skort when I was browsing the navy winter themed racks and visions raced in my mind. I imagined myself strolling in Central Park wearing this skort, some tights, fur lined booties and a cropped peacoat. At that instant, I had to have it. And why not get the equally amazing punk sweatshirt that happened to look perfect with anything from jeans to a pencil skirt. I decided to do three looks, what I would wear to school, on the weekend, and to a party. Hope you like!!
