Editorial vs. Electronic: A 21st Century Duel

VERSUS

Please take a moment to view the above photographs from Paris Fashion Week 2015 in their contrasting glory. Case in point. In the event that you are living in a hole and did not already know this, TECHNOLOGY IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD!!! So much so, that the street style from Paris FW even shows evidence of an electronically social society, which means that, yes, newspapers will most likely evaporate and become fossilized specimens similar to those of wooly mammoths and ancient starfish. However, we must not let this happen! As an avid participate in my generation's obsession with all things technology (the iPhone has single handedly revolutionized this planet), it is safe to say that I do not want, say, Instagram or Tumblr to simply disappear, but it would be extremely convenient if they were to step down and give good ol' newspapers and magazines another go. I happen to aspire to be a magazine journalist when I am older, and the thought that that might not even be an option when I am old enough to begin my career, frankly scares me. If we continue this fanatic obsession with receiving all of our information about the world from a CNN notification, and continue to be constantly involved in other people's lives via a single Tweet (i.e. "currently sitting in Dr. Mendelson's office, bout to get a cavity drilled, wish me luck guyz!!"), then what will be left 10 years from now?! Will we not be able to have the satisfactory sniff of the Wall Street Journal times new roman print every morning, alongside our kale and almond milk protein shakes? Will we have to learn about ISIS and elections via a cheery, dancing text bubble on the lock screen of our portables? What will this world be for the next generation when it is time for us to take the places of our parents and elders? What do you think?

Mommy and Me

At Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2015 Ready-to-Wear, women became role models instead of runway models. They transformed into 'real' women, accompanied by children and even a few models walked down the runway pregnant. This, to me, is a very important collection that Dolce & Gabbana has created, because it is not just about the beautiful clothing. It is celebrating motherhood, and all of the beauty that comes with it. I think every collection should inspire women in a simple way, as this collection does, anything from the feminism protests at Chanel Spring 2015 to when actress Jamie Brewer was the very first model with Down syndrome to walk in New York Fashion week. We should continue this trend of empowering women!

Lace and Lace-Ups

Alberta Ferretti Fall 2015

Valentino Fall 2015

Chloé Fall 2015

The LWD (little white dress) has yet to become your new best friend as spring is rapidly approaching and soon (soon! I promise!), the snow blanketing the entire eastern coast of the United States will melt gracefully away and all will be warm again (as warm as it can be for the first few weeks of spring). Exhibit A-- these two ensembles from Alberta Ferretti, Valentino, and Chloé are almost identical in nature, from the delicate white lace sheath to the nude colored gladiator lace up sandals. But this is no form of plagiarism-- the look is just so simple and chic, that two acclaimed designers decided to make TWO of these graceful little outfits, so you may be given the option of which you would wear taking a stroll by the Pacific (or Atlantic. Or a river.) Joyeux Printemps!!

A Parisian Day in L.A.

My favorite days in sunny-side up Los Angeles, California, are those that include brisk wind, a shining sun, eggshell blue skies, and of course, food. My inspiration today is a photograph of new style-setter stunning sisters, Gigi and Bella Hadid. Their custom Calvin Klein Collection pastel pink and blue outfits are so feminine yet modern, and I decided to take some photographs to fit in with the theme. First, I stopped off at Caffé Luxxe in Brentwood for a beautiful latte, and then straight across town to Sqirl (funny little name it has..) for the BEST toast I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. It is a thick slice of burnt brioche toast, slathered in creamy ricotta and homemade jam. Cried tears of happiness as I took my first bite. After that, I headed across the street to Sweet Lady Jane Bakery, which is an LA must hit stop. There I got a slice of the triple berry cake, which is just the right about of sweet. Lastly, I took a picture of this chic Paris-inspired mural on a wall on Melrose. Always a fabulous day in sunny L.A! Xx

A Little Black and Gray for Your Valentine's Day

Boots and Hat: Rag and Bone Bag: Coach Romper: Intermix Eyeshadows: Bobbi Brown Bracelet and Ring: Marc Jacobs

It is a universal norm to wear colors that imply love on Valentine's Day, most often, red. I, for one, say DO AS THE ROMANS DO!! I have a good hunch that the Romans aren't fans of dressing up in slinky lingerie and eating cute little SweetHearts, but, we can still go against our personal visions of what we should dress like on Valentine's Day. This year, try smoky grays, sooty blacks, and creamy whites, and don't forget the pop of solid gold! The ring is my favorite aspect of the outfit because it looks very natural and rugged, while still making you look put together and classy. Have a great love-filled Valentine's Day!! Xo

Some Groovy New Tunes That Are My New Year's Must-Haves

These songs have gotten me through studying for the SAT, midterms, and most importantly, make me happy while driving in the car with the window rolled down and the hot wind whipping my hair everywhere. Life is just that much more fun with there's a theme song to be played in the background like you're living in a movie, don't you think?

The painstakingly tedious college application process is looming ahead of me, and in a short year and a half, I will be spreading my wings and taking off to go live a wild four years of partying and cramming for tests and making entirely new friends, miles away from where I am at this moment. Intense. Anyway, as I sat basking in the breezy eighty-degrees-in-January Los Angeles weather doing practice SAT tests for hours on end, I realized that the most important part of my high school career is underway, and that made me think.... My life is about to begin. But I mean, really begin, where I won't be entirely reliant on my parents to pay for my movie tickets or to buy me a new pair of jeans, but instead I will be on my own, looking for a place of my own to live, and eating leftover Chinese food for breakfast, and trying to make my own living. These are the impressions I have gathered of life after high school from the many '80's movies/John Green novels I have read, and it got me really thinking about how I. am. just. not. READY!!!!!!! I'm still a kid, so I had better take full advantage of my short, blissfully supported childhood while I am gradually beginning to appreciate it. Happy New Year, everyone, and cheers to the start of a new life! (almost. still one and a half years, but it's coming up!!) xx
